In discussing the collapse of world orders or large scale orders throughout history such as Yugoslavia civil war or Roman Empire collapse Harari writes:
"The problem at the root of such calamities is that humans evolved for millions of years in small bands of a few dozen individuals. The handful of millennia separating The Agricultural Revolution from the appearance of cities, kingdoms and empires was not enough time to allow an instinct of mass cooperation to evolve."
I find it an interesting take. If we collectively concentrate and push for the idea of cooperation can we speed up evolution? (if that is an adequate theory of life)
